invasion

The  invasion not only killed thousands of civilians, but also entailed a raze of the village. However, I  felt intrepid as I climbed to the top of the mountain, making progress running away from the attack.

Little Bee OF COURSE!

My favorite book I've had to read for High School is hands down Little Bee. I think I am not the only person in this boat because I haven't heard one complaint about the book - not one person said ti was fatuous and unnecessary. Writing my one pager allowed me to be open with my thoughts and write freely. The candor of my paper was evident because it intrigued the audience and they wanted to read it again.

when i grow up

When I grow up I want to be a social activist. Some may say that it is quixotic, but I believe that with time, dedication, and passion, I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I hope to successfully promote the raising of awareness about international social injustices spreading across the globe. Although I may not be able to find the panacea to hunger, cancer, and oppressive treatment - I can at least spread awareness, which will ultimately lead to a change in itself.

favorite celebrity

Jennifer Aniston. Although many people beg to differ, claiming that Jennifers quality of acting has depreciated since the finale of the TV phenomenon friends, I think that with time, she only gets better. Her attempt at humor is completely efficacious, so I always find myself laughing at her jokes. She is not only humorous, but extremely beautiful and entertaining.

open gradebook

I think that open gradebook is a great opportunity for students to monitor their progress in all fields, however, one needs to find a balance with the accessibility. It is apropos for the teachers to tell their students not to ask for their grades because it is easily accessible, however, it is hard as a student to not be obsessive over it. For students who are trying to hide their grades from their parents, it is now impossible to beguile them because if they chose, they can log in and check on you. Overall, the open gradebook is what you make it to be.

everything but period 1

Mr. Soltmann is one of my favorite teachers from my entire educational experience. However, the subject he teaches makes me feel like my brain is a brick at the bottom of the ocean while everyone else is swimming around, enjoying the drifting tides. Mr. Soltmann has abided by each of my long email, after school meeting, and redundant question - however it hasn't gotten me very far. I vehemently study for each test and spend a lot of time on my homework, but it doesn't click in my brain!

Macbeth

Where did this curse come from?
In 1604, Shakespeare lead the performance of Macbeth. It’s abundant presence of witchcraft and it is believed that at the time of the first performance, real witches were so angered because they heard that their spells were being used for entertainment, that they invoked a curse upon the play. Therefore, whenever anyone says Macbeth, it is said to be a curse.
Which ones were the most shocking from the list of terrible things that happened during the performances of Macbeth?
I think that the Abraham Lincoln incident is most terrible because it shows that this curse didn’t only happen to joe-shmoes on the street – everyone was victimized. The fact that two deaths resulted from this curse is also shocking.
If you had to avoid the curse, which strategy would you use?
I would use the common strategy and leave the room, turn around three times to the right, spit on the ground or over each shoulder, then knock on the door of the room and ask for permission to re-enter it. I think that it is creepy trying to “banish the evils” or use a quote from Hamlet, because they are not my own words.
Do you believe that there is a curse?
No! I don’t believe in curses or anything like that, I think that everything happens for a reason and saying one thing will not lead to the fall down of events. I am superstitious, but I don’t believe in witchcraft.

the oscars

For me, the Oscars isn't about the awards, but rather the E! Red Carpet Special. However, this year on the Red Carpet, there was a surprise. Sacha Baron Cohen was dressed as a dictator to promote his movie The Dictator. As Ryan Seacrest was interviewing him, Sacha threw "ashes of former North Korean ruler Kim Jong-Il on his Burberry suit. Apparently, it was not rash, in fact it was planned and he was aware of the consequences. Ryan was not querulous, and handled it like a grown man by not whining and simply changing suits. Today, the tabloids are filled with pejorative remarks about Sachas behavior, even though I thought it was funny.

little stevies childhood

After reading Steven Kings On Writing stories about his childhood, I decided that I liked "illness and death" the most. Although this was not the funniest, most embarrassing, nor interesting story, it was the one that hit my heart. Today is February 15th 2012. On February 14th 2002, my grandmother passed away. Yesterday was Valentines Day. The first Valentines Day I had a boyfriend, a rose given to me, and someone to actually call my valentines. It was also the first Valentines Day I had taken the time to think about the loss of my Grandmother. I decided that this was my favorite story once I read the last line "there was no more breaths and it was all pause"(94). This is because from what I remember of my being told my Grandmother passed away ten years and one day ago, I remember loosing my breath and feeling quiet for once. I am loud, I am talkative, and I smile just as often as I breathe. This was one of the moments I was speechless, left in silence. This made me feel connected to King because this was the only excerpt I had read of his that did not make me laugh. I think that this is because he is much like me - usually he is sarcastic, cracking jokes, and making fun. When he wrote about things that were normal to him, he was himself. But a change like this altered his writing style, much like my experience changed me. Even though this story didn't make me double over in laughter and cry of happiness, it made me feel a connection with an author that had seemed so distant before.

#superbowlsunday

My favorite part of #superbowlsunday was the commercials. The commercial with the fat dog had my family and I laughing out loud. The company that put it together was extremely fastidious. The dog was not only adorable but effervescent and well trained. If I were buying a car, I would probably look into Fiat because the commercial was so captivating.

why rebecca black should have named her song "saturday"

Monday: everyone abhors mondays, you have to wake up at the crack of dawn and go to school - not even worth discussing.
Tuesday: just another day at school. you have to calibrate your alarm clock like 3 extra times because the snooze button isn't cutting it. you're exhausted and the last thing you want to do is go to school.
Wednesday: yea, it's "the middle of the week" and you're soooo close to friday, but so far.
Thursday: teachers usually give me tests on thursdays, which is so annoying.
Friday: just because it's "the weekend" doesn't mean its the most amazing day ever - no offense.
Saturday: UNBELIEVABLE. wake up whenever you want, do whatever you want all day. do you want to sit on the couch until dinner? go ahead. do you want to go for a run? run! saturday night, spend time with your friends, maybe your family - whatever you want. by far, the best day of the week. 52 saturdays are the best thing that will ever happen to you.
Sunday: homework. school tomorrow...not so great.

why my chemistry midterm will be the end of me.

I am a visual learner. Chemistry is abstract. I speak English. Chemistry is a language itself. I am bad at math. Chemistry is based off of math. My teacher, Mr. Soltmann and I have a great rapport, he knows that Chemistry is my weakness, but tries to explain it to me so I understand enough to do well. Although I listen in class, take notes on almost every word he says, do the homework to the best of my ability, have a tutor, and study for hours, it is salient that Chemistry does not click in my brain because for the amount I try, I should  be doing better. I do not believe in being unctuous to get good grades for two reasons. One, it simply is not fair to the other students who deserve the same grades as me. Secondly, I know that it doesn't work. For, if I were a teacher, I would just be annoyed and grossed out with the overwhelming compliments coming from my students, seeking a higher mark.n

How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in one movie make the dynamic duo. If I were to count, I've probably seen it 40 times, give or take. Andie, writes for a magazine and is instructed to write an article about how to loose a guys interest in a short time. The movie is all about her relationship with Ben, and even though her heart is telling her to stay with him because she's madly in love, she has to loose him in just ten short days. Andie is nefarious and plays hard to get, tries to make Ben think she's crazy, but ben elucidates that he loves her no matter what. Even after the article is printed, it is pellucid that Andie is still head over heels in love.

Romantic Literature in Wuthering Heights

-       Wuthering Heights is an epiphany of romantic literature. An outstanding aspect of romanticism is the presence of supernatural and unexplainable events. An example of this in Wuthering Heights was the bedroom scene when Lockwood is sleeping. The ghost scene served as an omen because the experience was both supernatural and unexplainable. Another example of romanticism in this novel is the isolation from society. Romantics idealize country life and believe that many of the ills of society are a result of urbanization. This explains the setting of the novel which is in an isolated society. However, although the characters are away from urbanization, there are still problems within the setting, inflicted by the characters, rather than the result of urbanization.

Holiday Break

This holiday season I spent time with my friends and family in order to catch up on the time we miss together during our hectic weeks at work and school. I went to Mexico with my parents and sisters Carly and Danielle. While we were there, I texted my boyfriend (who was vacationing in Costa Rica) on Christmas (even though I'm Jewish) and jokingly warned him not to "kiss any Mexicans under the mistletoe" or I would be really upset. Turns out, people who live in Costa Rica aren't Mexican, but rather Costa Rican. Ryan would say I'm a racist, but truthfully I was fallacious and didn't know the proper name. The fact that I said that was pretty ignominious for me, but I embarrass myself often enough to let it slide. Other than that I stayed out of trouble, my parents didn't harangue me about making bad decisions, in fact our conversations were quite pleasant on our time away.
